More Censures Coming? E-mail

The Spartanburg GOP is having an executive commitee meeting Thursday night at 7:00pm. A lot of folks are hoping that they will decide to officially censure Graham as the Greenville GOP did:

Thursday's rally will feature former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's wife, Ann; S.C. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer; state Sen. Jim Ritchie; state Rep. Scott Talley; and Tim Carnes of Greenville, who plans to run against Graham.
The rally will double as a brief county-level GOP business meeting, and Spartanburg County Republican Party Chairman Rick Beltram said he's heard rumblings that censuring Graham will be brought up.
"I think where a lot of people are going to want to come is to make comments about their unhappiness with Republican officeholders, particularly Lindsey Graham. And I think during the new business portion of the meeting, you'll see a lively discussion," Beltram said.

Here are the details for the rally:

August 23:
Spartanburg County Republican Party Executive Committee Meeting. Scott Talley and Homer Rose are sponsoring our next County Executive committee meeting August 23 at 7:00 PM. The event will be at The Marble Slab Creamery on Blackstock (next to Red Lobster). This will also be a family event with free ice cream for all (open to the public). Other than Scott and Homer, we will also have 2 guest speakers: Senator Jim Ritchie and Ann Romney (wife of Mitt Romney).

Graham's Peeps Call Out the 'Bigots' E-mail

Things are gettin' heated up har in the Upstate. Dan Hoover covers the goings on after the Greenville GOP's censure of Graham. Looks like Spartanburg County Chairman Rick Beltram is calling them out:

Beltram has suggested that no quorum existed and a voice vote shouldn’t have been allowed on a matter of that import.
“Heck no! That’s not a slam at Samuel, he’s new,” Beltram said of Greenville chairman Samuel Harms who presided over the meeting.

For his part, Harms, who’s an attorney, says he’s not going to get into a feud with Beltram and dismisses it as "a total non-issue" with the aroma of a red herring. “He may be trying to tell us how to run our meetings, but I’m not going to tell him how to run his,” Harms said this afternoon.

A Run FOR The Border E-mail
Written by Toast Graham

James Pinkerton has a great piece on the latest in immigration news and devotes quite a bit of ink to our pal Lindsey:

In June, Graham said of the doomed immigration bill, "This is the last, best chance we'll have as a Congress." The lawmaker's argument to conservatives was that the only way to get better border enforcement through a Democratic-controlled Congress was by coupling it with amnesty for illegal immigrants. But that wasn't true at all - as Graham himself demonstrated just weeks later when, eyeing his own re-election needs, he co-sponsored an extra $3 billion for border-enforcement and wall-building without any reference to amnesty of "guest workers." That item passed the Senate 89-1; it will soon be law.

June: "This is the last, best chance we'll have as a Congress."

July: "I think we're going to find more success that could not have been achieved without the prior debate"

Ahh, the smell of sincerity...

Graham Censured in Greenville! E-mail

From the The Times Examiner:

A resolution proposed by Chris Golden would have asked Sen. Lindsey Graham to resign as a member of the Republican Party, and not seek the Republican Party nomination for the United States Senate or any other office in the future.
After extended debate, the resolution passed with an amendment that was a compromise between the original strong resolution and a much weaker one.

Mostly just a slap here, but it's still nice to see state party members stand up to Lindsey.

Failure is good in the land of Lindsey. He's now attempting to tie in the failure of the Amnesty bill with the border security amendment in the pork laden Homeland Security bill (which still faces a veto from President Bush).

The Shot has a good piece on Graham's spin (although I disagree that he will be able to redeem himself on this - you can't screw us on the job and then make nicey-nice on a run-up to an election).
